They were unobtrusive, but helpful in letting me know when the computer had made its move.

I found that the simple sounds worked best for me. Setup options include thematic, digital, and simple sound effects, all of which have their own strengths. Infinitely variable skill levels ensure that Chessmaster 5000 is an excellent personal chess trainer and opponent for almost any level of player. All of the sets are very strong visually, and show a great attention to detail often lacking in computer chess sims. Some of the sets are 2-d, while others are 3-d or perspective.

The cheapest I could find Chessmaster 10 was about $40, until today. I found it on Amazon for about $20 including delivery. I think the most I ever paid for any version of Chessmaster was $20.Īnyway, a few weeks ago I opted for Chessmaster 9000. I realize that they have been discontinued, and for that reason, Chessmaster 11 (the last version) is ridiculously high ($99). I was a big fan of the Chessmaster series and I owned 3 different versions, but I have no idea of what happened to them over the years. I just recently got back in to playing chess, just as a hobby.
